Master Thesis Project: Analysis and optimization of precision CAM

Project Description

3Shape develops software for designing and manufacturing dental crowns. From 3D scans of the teeth, high precision dental restorations are designed using CAD suites and manufactured on state-of-the art CNC mills.

In this project, you must optimize the design of the restorations to take into account both the geometry of the teeth and the capabilities of the CAM machinery. This involves:

  • Clarification of relevant parameters and the proper dimensionless combinations hereof.
  • Outlining and setting in motion a full test plan based on the identified dependencies.
  • Analyzing the results and concluding the optimal design constraints.


A combination of strong theoretical and geometrical skills, as well as some practical/CAD experience, is an advantage.
